Specimen Loan Policy
KOPRI Herbarium provides loans of dried specimens for scientific research and some types of educational activities (not for commercial purposes).
Specimen loans are made only to faculty, curators, and research personnel at institutions with adequate facilities to house and care for specimens for the duration of the loan.
General policies
- All request must be approved by a herbarium director. Loans for use by graduate students or postdocs must be co-signed by the individual’s major advisor.
- Specimen damage that occurs during transit should be reported immediately. The borrower is liable for damage that occurs during handling of specimens.
- Loans are generally made for a period of six months. Request for loan extensions must be made in writing.
- In the case of re-identification of specimens, the new designations should be provided to the herbarium director when specimens are returned to KOPRI. These data can be provided on a copy of the original loan invoice, or in a separate list that contains the herbarium specimen numbers and respective new identifications.

Specimen Donation
KOPRI herbarium welcomes donations of herbarium specimen and related materials (e.g. images, scientific illustrations and field notes). All specimens should be accompanied by either field notes, data tags, or data sheets. Donated material will be made available for research, education or public exhibit. Once a donation is accessioned in to KOPRI Herbarium, the inclusive material and any copyrights become the property of Korea Polar Research Institute.
